It is legal for Icelandic citizens to own and mine cryptocurrency. The Icelandic Central Bank said that it is prohibited to engage in foreign exchange trading with the electronic currency bitcoin, according to the Icelandic Foreign Exchange Act. In 2017, the Icelandic Central Bank amended the rules prohibiting the outflow of krónur from the country to allow for cross-border transactions.
