- In April 2018, the State Bank of Pakistan banned investment in and trading of cryptocurrencies. In April 2019, however, The Express Tribune, citing finance ministry sources, reported that the nation’s federal government decided to bring in Electronic Money Institutions (EMIs) regulations following recommendations from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). In 2020, SadaPay obtained an (EMI) license from the State Bank of Pakistan to collaborate with to simplify digital payments in Pakistan.
